  When her brother James H. Reynolds attested to her age for marriage, Lucy is called Bridget.  On the 1870 Census she is Bridget. 
  
  Also, the same 1870 Census for Jefferson Township, Washington County, Indiana lists James and Brighet Reynolds Cavanaugh as being 28 years of age.  That would change their birth years to 1842... Subsequent census results confirm that theory.   Oh, well, that's a search for another day...

  Lucy B. Reynolds Cavanaugh, daughter of John and Anne Reynolds, was born at Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland, 12 may 1839 and died at her home near Salem, Indiana, 11 June 1916, aged 77 years and 30 days.Mrs. Cavanaugh's early life was spent in her native land where she resided until she was nineteen years old.  She then left her home accompanied by her nephew Michael Dennany, and came to America to live with the family of her brother, James Reynolds.  Although she never ceased to love her native country, America as the land of freedom became her ideal and she loved her adopted land with greatest zeal.  She was married in 1866 to James Cavanaugh who preceded her in death nineteen years ago.  To this  union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy.  Those remaining to mourn her departure are Edward, Anna, the wife of Ernest O. Purlee, Elizabeth, the wife of Jos. B. Wright, Thomas M., and Robert E., all of whom were present to comfort her in her last illness.  In addition to these she leaves nine grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and a very great number of friends who have learned to know her splendid qualities as a woman of tender sympathies and kindly disposition.Mrs. Cavanaugh was reared as a Catholic and remained steadfastly loyal to that faith.  She was a true Christian in the broadest sense of the term, and her one aim in life was to serve God almighty through administering to the needs of her fellow mankind.  The earliest recollections of her children bring to mind the errands on which they were sent with food for the poor and distressed, for she was ever ready and willing to divide her last mite from the slender store of her home.That she was a woman of good judgement and business ability is attested by the fact that in 1897 on the death of her husband who at the time superintendent of the Washington County Poor Farm, the board of county commissioners unanimously elected her to succeed the position.  This place she retained, assisted by her son Thomas for four and a half years when she resigned to retire to her home at this place in 1901 where she resided most of the time since that date.  She loved the country life with its freedom, and her interest in the farm never ceased as long as conscious life lasted.  She was a very patient sufferer, and, even in the last bitter hours, she was more concerned with the comfort of those with her than for her own.Although she lived beyond the average years allotted to mortal life, never-the-less it is hard to give her up, for her kindly smile and words of encouragement will always be sadly missed.  There is much consolation in knowing that her life was well spent, and her own statement a few hours before death, "I haven't a fear in the world" is most reassuring to her relatives and friends.
  
       The funeral services for Mrs. James Cavanaugh were conducted from the family residence at Canton, Tuesday afternoon by Rev. W. D. Bartle, of the Salem Christian Church, and were largely attended by friends and relatives. A quartette of singers, Miss Ethel Shultz, Mrs. E. H. Bristol, Messrs. E. P. Routh and Otto Zink, furnished special music for the services.  Almost the entire corps of Salem teachers were in attendance.  Interment was made in St.Patrick's cemetery.
