Clarence Lewis was born on June 20th, 1879 in Smithland, Addison Township, Shelby County, Indiana.1 Clarence Lewis' father was John Franklin Collins and his mother was Jemima Phillips. His maternal grandparents were Beverly H. Phillips and Martha Richardson. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John Franklin, Jr., M. Edward, Sarah M. "Sallie", Ola J. and Maude Ellen. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 48 on November 14th, 1927 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.2 General Notes
