His paternal grandparents were Lewis Freeman Byfield and Nancy Josephine Whitsitt; his maternal grandparents were James Henry Barnes and Elma Wolfe Deputy. He had two brothers and a sister, named Freeman R., Charles Leroy and Marvel . He was the youngest of the four children. He died in IN.-
