Narrative
[1279-louise_burns.FTW]
Philip Dold is believed to have been a native of Pennsylvania and a Presbyterian, who settled near Tinkling Spring, Virginia around 1779.
Dold married a sister of "old Harry Miller", of Mossy Creek, who owned an iron furnace and was a man of means and importance. He founded "Miller's Iron Works"; following his death, his administrators on September 6, 1911 advertised a sale of
the furnace and forge as well as 8000 acres of land, "supposed to be the most valuable property of its kind in Virginia."
Philip Dold was a man of considerable means, as his bequests to his six surviving children included twenty slaves, land and $7000 in cash; to his son Jesse he bequeathed a bark mill, tanning and currying business.
