Sybil was born in Aberhonwy, Breconshire, Wales.1 Sybil's father was Bernard de Neufmarché II Baron Brecnoch and her mother was Nesta verch Trahaern. Her paternal grandparents were Geoffrey de Neufmarché and Ada de Hugelville; her maternal grandparents were Osbern FitzRichard and Nesta verch Gruffydd. She was an only child.
