Purl Wood was born on July 18th, 1882 in Culbertson, Hitchcock, NE.1 Purl Wood's father was Bradford Wood Howsmon and his mother was Betsey Louisa Douglas. His paternal grandparents were William Tolan Howsmon and Louisa Jane Wood. He had three brothers and a sister, named Frank Edwin, Harry Ernest, William Grant and Myrtle Louisa. He was the second oldest of the five children.-
