Daniel was born in 1737 in , Litchfield, CT. Daniel's father was Thomas Griffee and his mother was Sarah Borden. His paternal grandparents were John Griffee and Isabel Willey. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, James, Sarah, Isabel and Mary. He was the second youngest of the seven children.-
