Walter Deane holds by copy dated 3 Apr. 1527 one heriotable tenement and one cottage, to which pertains 17 acres of land lying in divers closes or parcels, viz. a curtilage, garden and orchard, 4 acres in South Field, 7 acres in Myddlellfelde, 5 acres in North Field 2 1/2 acres in Holwaie, 3 rods in Gulwill Meade, 1/2 acre in Gore Meade. To hold to him for term of his life by grant of Thomas la Ware and Lady Elizabeth his wife under fine 33s4d, rent 13s.

...present that Walter Deane, who of the Lord held by indenture certain closes called Capon [sic] Downe, containing by estimation 30 acres, died since the last court [previous court was held 9 Apr. 1591], whereupon there fell due to the lord for reliec 6s8d. And it is presented that the bailiff should admonish the wife of the said Walter that she produce the writing by which she claims to hold the said premises and show the same to the steward at the next court [ the next court was held on 7 Sept. 1591, but included no relevant entry]

Will of Walter Deane is dated July 7, 1585, proved Jul 10, 1591, by Geoffrey Clarke Notary Public, Proctor for William Deane the son and executor. . (PCC Sainberbe 56, Wills vol 62 Somerset Record Office).
To be bur. in churchyard in Chard. To poor folks 20 groates. To Eleanor Deane my daughter 30 pounds...to Joan Deane my daughter 30 pounds. Residue of my goods; to Joane my wife one moiety thereof, for her life, and aftr her death to remain to William my son to whom I give all the rest of my goods, and I make him sole executor...THOMAS BONDAGE, THOMAS SMITHE and JOHN LEGG of Southcharde to be overseers, to whom I give 2s apiece.
