Mary was born about 1539 in Whitestaunton, Somerset, England. Mary's father was Alexander Alford and her mother was Agnes Unknown. Her paternal grandfather was John Alford. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Solomon, William, John, Bartholomew, Alice, Elinor and Bridget. She was the oldest of the eight children.General Notes
