Bartholomew was born about 1551 in Whitestaunton, Somerset, England. Bartholomew's father was Alexander Alford and his mother was Agnes Unknown. His paternal grandfather was John Alford. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Solomon, William, John, Mary, Alice, Elinor and Bridget. He was the second youngest of the eight children.General Notes
