John Michael was born in 1706 in Baden Germany. It is believed that he had a wife named Mar y (?) in 1730. She must have died before he left Germany. John Michael came to America on t he Ship Ship Cunliss in l752 with his 3 children: Frederick, 20, Jacob, l9, & Charlot, ll . They sailed from the port at Rotterdam in Halland and arrived in Charles Town (Charleston ) South Carolina. They sailed under Captain Joseph Cleater. He petioned for 200 acres of pr ovincial American land on November 4th, 1752 [Petion, Council Journal, Vol 20, Pt2, page 533] . John Michael was granted a bounty in the area known as Dutch Fork between the Broad and Sl uda Rivers in South Carolina. Nothing is known about his parents. John Michael died in Newb erry, South Carolina in 1771.
