Obituary, The State paper, Monday, January 10, 2000
Doris Smoak
Columbia - Services for Doris Taylor Smoak, 75, will be held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Hme of West Columbia, with
burial in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Dr. Donald F. West will
officiate. Pallbearers will be Morris Lee Bays Jr., Dykes Smoak, Jimmy
Smoak, Mike Smoak, Kenny Hare, Michael Hale and Sam Jones. The family
will receive friends 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and may be
reached at 142 Rock Hampton Road in Irmo. Memorials may be made to the
American Heart Association.
Mrs. Smoak died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. Born in Gilbert, she was a
daughter of the late Essie Sease Addy of West Columbia and Sidney L.
Taylor of Gilbert. She retired from the U.S. Army Air Force Exchange
Service in 1986 after over 20 years of service.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Morris Bays of
Irmo and Diane and Randy Brinson of Woodinville, Wash.; daughter-in-law,
Rita Slice of O'Fallon, Mo.' sister, Ore Lee Spurlock of Simpsonville;
eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren;
six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons,
Jimmie Slice and Asbury "Berry" Smoak Jr. and her former husband, Asbury
Smoak.
