Edmund Crouchback, Earl of Lancaster

Edmund Plantagenet, "Crouchback," created Earl of Lancaster an d Leicester, and High Steward of England, 26 Oct, 1265, M.P. 127 6.

Edmund of Lancaster Crouchback [Gibbosus], fourth and youngest b ut second surviving son, Earl of Leicester, Derby and Lancaster , was born at London on 16 Jan. 1244/5. He was in the Holy Lan d in 1272. He was married for the first time at Westminster Abbe y on 8 or 9 Apr. 1269 to Aveline de Fort, daughter of William d e Fort, titular Comte d'Aumale, Lord of Holverness, by Isabel, d aughter and heiress of Baldwin de Redvers, 7th Earl of Devon. Sh e was born 20 Jan. 1259, and died at Stockwell on 10 Nov. 1274 s .p., buried at Westminster Abbey. He was married for the secon d time at Paris between 27 July and 29 Oct. 1276 to Blanche D'Ar tois, widow of Henri de France, Roi de Navarre (died 22 July 127 6), and daughter of Robert, Comte d'Artois (descendant of Charle magne), by Mathilde, daughter of Heinrich II, Herzog von Braban t (descendant of Charlemagne). In consequence of this marriage h e was styled Comte de Champagne et Brie in France. He was summon ed to Parliament on 24 June 1295 by writ directed Edmundo comit i Lancastr'. Edmund of Lancaster, Earl of Lancaster, died at Bay onne on 5 June 1296, and was buried at Westminster Abbey. His wi dow died in Paris on 2 May 1302.
