Notes for Dr. Robert Lide Hart:
DR. ROBERT LIDE HART- Born in Darlington District, SC, near Mechanicsville, the son of Captain Thomas Edwards and Hannah Lide Hart.
He entered the South Carolina College in 18133, where he was a member of the Euphradian Society and graduated in 1837 with a AB degree. He studied medicine at the South Carolina Medical College, graduating in the Class of 1840. Dr. Hart practiced medicine in Darlington, SC for nearly forty years. During his career, he was a member of the South Carolina General Assembly from Darlington, serving as Representative for several years and as Senator from 1858 to 1862. He served for some time as Surgeon on the staff of the 29th Regiment, South Carolina Militia, was a member of the Baptist Church, the Pee Dee Medical Association, and a Warden on the Darlington Town Council in 1852. For five years he was in partnership with his father-in-law, Dr. Thomas J. Flinn; afterwards he became associated with Dr. C.M. Parker. Dr. Hart is said to have owned the first steam-operated cotton gin in South Carolina.

On July 9, 1843, Dr. Hart married Eliza Amelia Flinn, who died in l867. Their children were Mary, who married W.E. Dargan; Sallie, who married DeWitt McCall, Thomas Flinn, who married Sallie Charles, Eliza, who married Robert Wilds, Marion Sims, who married Hannah Byrd, Annie, who married Theodore DuBose, Robert Lide who married Mary Munson, Arthur, and Carrie, who married Sebe Burch.

Dr. Hart was next married to Theodosia Eason on December 6, 1871, and had a son, Russell, who married a Miss Dauthit and they moved to Tennessee. He is said to have been buried in Darlington, however. Lavinia is also named as a daughter of this second marriage.
