1000: made King of Poland by Emperor Otto. He was primarily a warrier,
whose reign was almost uninteruppted warfare, resulted in the formation
of a vast kingdom extending from the Baltic to the Carpathians, and from the
Elbe to the Bug. [Ref: Moncreiffe p95]

after his death, Poland was attacked by all her neighbors and
siultaneously a terrible pagan reaction swept away the poor remains of
Christianity and civilisation. For a time Poland became a smoking
wilderness, and wild beasts made their lairs in the ruined and desecrated
