Obituary, The State paper, Wednesday, January 5, 2000
Arline Sloan
Columbia - Services for Arline Fellers Sloan, 98, will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with burial in Elmwood Memorial
Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais
Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to
Newberry Boys' Farm.
Mrs. Sloan, widow of Burnell Sloan, died Tuesday, January 4, 2000. Born
in Newberry County, she was a daughter of hte late Ernest Eugene and
Mabel Feagle Fellers. She was the oldest member of St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, where she was in charge of obtaining altar flowers for 44 years
and was a member of the Women of the Church.
Surviving are her daughters: Lois Mae Sloan, Janet Sloan Albers, Mary
Sloan Cooper of Columbia, Carolyn Sloan Criss of Matthews, N.C.;
grandchildren, Betty K. Walker of Columbia, Catherine K. Griffith of
Pelham, Ala., John D. Keels III of Gilbert, Burnell H. Keels of Columbia,
Burnell Sloan Thomas of Germantown, Tenn., Julie C. Ardis of Sumter, John
F. Criss Jr., of North Augusta, Amy Criss of Jacksonville, Fla, Mary
Cooper Glaser of Elko, Nev., Leon A. Cooper III of Columbia, Ellen Cooper
of Columbia; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She
was predeceased by her daughter, Betty Sloan Keels.
