Curtis Shealy

Chapin - Services for Curtis M. Shealy, 87, will be held at 4 p.m.
Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, with burial in the
church cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends 6-8
tonight at Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may
be made to St. Horeb Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Mr. Shealy died Saturday, April 1, 2000. Born in Lexington Co., he was
the son of the late Wesley Killian and Agnes Wessinger Shealy. He was a
member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. Mr. Shealy served as Mayor of
Chapin for 19 years (1956-75), during which time the Chapin Volunteer
Fire Department was organized and the Chapin Water System was
established. He served a four-year term on the Lexington County Council
beginning in 1975. He was a trustee of Lexington County Hospital
1967-75, and a member of the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission 1969-74
and 1980-84. He is a past member of the Lexington County Planning
Commission and executive committee, and of Central Midlands Regional
Planning Council; past president of the Lexington County Municipal
Association and the Chapin Ruritan Club; charter member of the Chapin
Volunteer Fire Department; Past Master of Little Mountian Masonic Lodge
281; past church council member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. He was
employed by the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company for 37 years and
retired in 1977. He served in recent years as Chapin's water
superintendent.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Derrick Shealy of Chapin; sons and
daughters-in-law, Melton "Herb" and Dianne Shealy of Columbia, John R.
and Karen Shealy of chapin; grandchildren, Courtney Shealy, Kara Shealy,
Paige Shealy, Trent Shealy; sister, T.E. "Mary" Pickell of Columbia.
