Robert Wingfield, Knight, of Letheringham, son and heir of Rober t Wingfield, was born in 1403, and was knighted by King Henry V I at Hereford on 19 May 1426. He was steward of the lands of th e Duke of Norfolk, and attended the Duke on an embassy to Franc e in 1447. He was M.P. for Suffolk in 1427, and for Herfrodshir e in 1449. He was married to Elizabeth Goushill, younger daughte r and co-heiress of Robert Goushill, Knight, of Hoveringham, co . Nottingham, by Elizabeth, widow of Thomas de Mowbray, Duke o f Norfolk, and daughter of Richard Fiz Alan, Earl of Arundel an d Surrey. She was born about 1042 (aged on at her father's death ). Then had seven sons and five daughtres. "Syr Roberd Wingegeld e, knyght, town of Cambridge" died testate (P.C.C., 1 Stokton) i n 1451, and was buried at Letheringham. A bress effigy formerl y in Letheringham chruch showed the arms of Wingfield impaling G oushill bearing the inscription: "Her lieth S'r Thomas Wingfeld , knyght, Richard Wyndfeld and William Wyngfeld, squyres, sonn s of S'r Rob't Wyngfeld, knyght, and of lady Elizabeth, his wif , syster to the duke of Norff".
