J.R. Summer Rites Set This Afternoon
Funeral services for james Rufus Summer, who died at his home near
Chapin, Monday, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Mt. Horeb
Lutheran Church by his pastor, the Rev. John H. Koch.
Masonic rites will be held at the graveside by the Pomaria Lodge at Peak.
Active pallbearers will be Boyd Graham, J.A. Rister, Lloyd Haltiwagner
and Harry Lindler. They are to meet at the home at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Church Council of the Mt.
Horeb Lutheran Church. They are to meet at the church at 3:50 p.m.
Wednesday.
The body will be at the home until 3:15 p.m. when it will be taken to the
church to await the hour of service.

J.R. Summer, 86, of Chapin
Chapin, Aug 12 - (Special) - James Rufus Summer, 86, a well-known retired
farmer, of near Chapin died at his home at 1 p.m. Monday after a sudden
illness.
Mr. Summer was born in Lexington County, the son of the late Hillard and
martha Haltiwanger Summer. He lived near Chapin his entire life. He was
a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and of hte Masonic Lodge near Peak.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sease Summer of Chapin; one daughter,
Miss Eva Summer of Chapin, one son, Leland S. Summer of Lockhart, one
sister, Mrs. Emma Betchman of Chapin, four grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeal services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Mt. Horeb
Lutheran Church by the Rev. John H. Koch. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. The body will be at the home from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 3:15
p.m. Wednesday when it will be taken to the church.
