Hugh X le Brun, count of la Marche. In 1242 Hugh and his wife we re defeated by the French, but Louis forgave them and restored t heir lands. Hugh m. Apr. 1220 in England Isabella Taillefeur (c1 188 or c1185 in Angoulme France-31 May 1246 at Fontevraud conve nt, France) daughter of Aymer Count of Angoulme and widow of Ki ng John (-1216) and mother of Henry III and first cousin of Hug h IX's wife Matilda; in 1244 she may have attempted to have Loui s assassinated. She fled to Fontevraud convent where she took th e veil. Hugh X and Isabella had nine children of whom five wer e granted large estates in England by Henry III. By 1256 they we re forced into exile by jealous barons, but were allowed to retu rn.
