Gilbert was born before 1066.1 Gilbert's father was Richard Fitz Gilbert de Clare and his mother was Rohese Giffard. His maternal grandparents were Walter Giffard sn de Longueville and Agnes Ermentrude Flaitel. He had a brother named Robert. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Richard FitzRichard de Clare, Gilbert de Tousburg, Robert FitzRichard and Rohese. He died in 1114.1 General Notes
