Owens' father was Andrew Pierson Shealy and his mother was Anna D. Koon. His paternal grandparents were Leonard L. Shealy and Martha Isabelle Comalander. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Colen L., Adam Franklin, Wilbur L., Unnamed Son, Ruff, Son, M. Blanch and Agnes.-
