Evelyn's father was Lonnie Magnus Shealy and her mother was Mary Edna Stoudemire. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Shealy and Macy Addy. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Leon, Leon Magnus, Mary Evelyn, Marjorie and Marjorie Louise.-
