Evelyn's father was Joseph M. Shealy and her mother was Allie A. Epting. Her paternal grandparents were Pleasant Hilliard Shealy and Frances Rebecca Epting. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Tally Hugh, Olin, Ray, Grady, Marion, Louise, Ruby, Mabelle and Dorothy.-
