Duncan I MacCrinan the Gracious was born about 1001 in of Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.1   Duncan I MacCrinan the Gracious' father was Crinan MacDuncan Earl of Strathclyde and his mother was Bethoe (Beatrix) of Scotland.  His paternal grandfather was Duncan Earl of Atholl; his maternal grandfather was Malcolm of Alba King of Strathclyde. He had a brother named Maldred.  He was the older of the two children.  He died on August 14th, 1040 in skirmish at Bothgouanan, near Elgin, Iona/Moray.1
