Thorfinn the Black King of Scotland 
Thorfinn the Black was born in 1009.1 Thorfinn the Black's father was Sigurd Hlodvirsson the Stout Jarl of Orkney and his mother was Anleta of Scotland. His paternal grandparents were Hlodvir "Lodar" Thorfinnsson Jarl of Orkney and Eithne of Dublin; his maternal grandfather was Malcolm of Alba King of Strathclyde. He had a sister named daughter. He died at the age of 50 in 1059.1 General Notes

Known as "the Great", he ruled all of Scotland north & east of
the Tay.
Made an alliance with Malcolm "Big Head", King of Scots, ruler
of Scotland south of the Tay. This alliance upset the English,
who exerted great control over Malcolm. Eventually, Malcolm
allowed the northern alliance to dwindle away.
Macbeth was his co-ruler, south & east of the Tay.
Deposed in Orkney by his nephew Ragnvald, who attempted to burn
him alive.
Deposed & killed Ragnvald in turn. His men killed Ragnvald at
Papay Minni in the Orkneys.
