Robert Dinwiddie was born on April 14th, 1839 in Petersburg, VA.1 Robert Dinwiddie's father was Dinwiddie Grigg and his mother was Clara Smith. His paternal grandparents were William Grigg and Elizabeth Grubbs. He had five sisters named Samantha, Louisa T., Addie B., Ella F. and Charlotte. The Dinwiddie name comes from Lt. Governor Robert Dinwiddie of VA who recommended annexation of the Ohio Valley and erection of Forts to secure the frontier against the French.
This Robert Dinwiddie Grigg II married Frances Prudence Archer. They went to Barnesville, Lamar County, GA, and became the parents of eight children. Hewent to VMI before serving in the Civil War.
