Michael III was born about 0839.1 Michael III's father was Theophilus Eastern Emperor and his mother was Saint Theodora. His paternal grandparents were Michael The Amorian Eastern Emperor and Thekla; his maternal grandparents were Marinos and Theoctiste-Florine. He was an only child.1 General Notes
