1098: aided William II against his brother's castles of Montfort and

1118: on death of maternal uncle, William Count of Evereux, he claimed
the comte, and when Henry I denied him the inheritance he led a
widespread revolt and obtained posession of Evereux. Next year Henry besieged
Evereux, but his nephew Theobald, Count of Champagne, reconciled him and
Amauri, who surrendered the castle to the King and thereupon received his
