Sarah Gertrude's father was John Alford Dawson and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Kauffman. Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Debolt Dawson and Sarah Jane Cochran. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George Chester, Daniel Debolt, Harry Alford, Edna Mae and Jessie Myrtilla.-
