Charlemagne was born in Ingelheim.1 Charlemagne's father was Pepin the Short and his mother was Bertha Broadfoot. His paternal grandparents were Charles Martel and Routrou; his maternal grandfather was Cambert of Laon. He was an only child. He died in Aix le Chapelle.1 General Notes
