Her paternal grandparents were David Taylor Byrd and Charlotte Anna Dorrity. She had ten brothers and a sister, named David Clarence, Carl Alexas, William Thomas, Robert J., Laurin, Herbert Harold, James W., Laurie Lawson, Leslie, Living and Marie Elizabeth.
