Sarah was born on June 19th, 1857 in Mobile, AL.  Sarah's father was W. A. Witherspoon and her mother was Tarifa Cocke.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry Harrison Cocke and Elizabeth Ruffin. She had two brothers named Harrison H. and William Alfred.  She was the second oldest of the three children.  She died at the age of 77 on August 20th, 1934 in Petersburg, VA.
