George W.'s father was John Overton Truehart and his mother was Ann Tompkins Minor. His maternal grandparents were Lancelot Minor and Mary Overton Tompkins. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Lucien Minor, Henry Martyn, Charles William, Mary Minor, Fannie Overton, Elvira, Caroline Hill, Mildred Dabney and Fannie Garland.-
