Elizabeth was born in 1726. Elizabeth's father was Thomas Tabb and her mother was Mary Armistead. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Tabb and Mary Heyward; her maternal grandfather was Anthony Armistead. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Mary Marshall, Martha and Rachel.-
