Eliza was born about 1844.  Eliza's father was John Furreyel Stanley and her mother was Elizabeth Beulah Middlebrook.  Her paternal grandparents were Michael Stanley and Rebecca Stanley. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William A., John, James Henry, Alexander, Francis, Martha, Elizabeth and Mary Louisa.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
