Grey was born in Prestwould, Leicestershire, England. Grey's father was Henry Skipwith and his mother was Amy Kempe. His paternal grandparents were William Skipwith and Margaret Cave. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Henry, Thomas, John, Diana, Elizabeth and Anne. He died in 1680 in "Prestwould", Lancaster Co., VA.-
