James was born on October 27th, 1745. James' father was James Shields and his mother was Anne Marot. His paternal grandfather was James Shields; his maternal grandparents were Jean Marot and Ann Pasteur. He had two sisters named Anne and Christiana. He had three half-sisters named Elizabeth, Frances and Hannah.
