Robert was born about 1734. Robert's father was John Shelton and his mother was Eleanor Parks. His paternal grandfather was John Shelton; his maternal grandfather was William Parks. He had six brothers and three sisters, named James, Thomas, John, David, William Parks, Richard, Sarah Anne, Eleanor and Elizabeth.
