Matthew was born on November 22nd, 1720 in Prince George Co., VA.  Matthew's father was Israel Roberson and his mother was Sarah Williams. He had six brothers and a sister, named John, Israel, David, Nicholas, Charles, George and Susannah.  He was the oldest of the eight children.
