John P. was born in 1703 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., Virginia.  John P.'s father was Thomas Poindexter and his mother was Sarah Crawford.  His paternal grandparents were ? Poindexter and Elizabeth Efford; his maternal grandparents were David Crawford and Jane ?. He had a brother named Thomas.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 50 on May 22nd, 1753 in Louisa Co., VA.
