Grizell was born in 1612 in Easington inHolderness, Yorkshire, England. Grizell's father was John Overton and her mother was Joanne Palmer. Her paternal grandfather was William Overton; her maternal grandparents were Richard Palmer and Elizabeth Adcock. She had a brother named Robert. She was the younger of the two children.
