His paternal grandparents were William Resseau and Margaret ?; his maternal grandparents were Christopher Columbus Goodman and Virginia Tomkin Stanley. He had a brother and three sisters, named William, Lavenia, Charlotte and Mary Jane. He was the second oldest of the five children.-
