John's father was Tarleton Fleming and his mother was Mary Randolph. His paternal grandparents were Tarleton Fleming and Hannah Bates; his maternal grandparents were William Randolph and Maria Judith Page. He had three brothers and a sister, named Tarleton, William, Thomas Mann and Judith.-
