His paternal grandparents were Marcus Lafayette Fleming and Annie Jane Robertson; his maternal grandparents were Albert Woolley and Sarah Griffin. He had a brother named Wessel Barnett. He had two half-brothers named Billy and Dean. He died at the age of 82 on August 14th, 1989 in Birmingham, AL.-
