Miriam was born on December 1st, 1769 in Virginia. Miriam's father was Gideon Ellyson and her mother was Margery Stanley. Her paternal grandparents were William Ellyson and Agnes Johnson; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Stanley and Elizabeth Maddox. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Gideon, Zachariah, Jonathan, Mary, Margery and Agnes.-
