Robert Stanard was born in January 1834 in Alabama. Robert Stanard's father was Philip Whitehead Claiborne and his mother was Annette S. Craig. His paternal grandparents were William Dandridge Claiborne and Euphania Taylor; his maternal grandparents were Adam Craig and Mary Mallory. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Walter H., Wallace Craig, ?, William Dandridge, Philapelia, Georgiana and Lucy Ellen.-
