John Carter 
John was born in 1715 in Lancaster Co., VA. John's father was Edward Carter and his mother was Elizabeth Thornton. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Carter and Katherine Dale; his maternal grandparents were William Thornton and Elizabeth FitzHugh. He had a brother and three sisters, named Edward, Margaret, Judith and Katherine. He died at the age of 68 in November 1783 in St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co., VA.-
