Benjamin was born about 1832. Benjamin's father was Jesse T. Bowles and his mother was Ann Elizabeth Dooley. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Bowles and Frances Alloway Strange. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Zacharaiah H., Isaac N., John S., Archer S., Frances Rebecca, Ruth A., Malvina Virginia, Julia M., Mary E. and Maria C. F.. He was the second oldest of the eleven children.-
