Margaret was born on July 29th, 1725 in North Farnham Parish, VA.  Margaret's father was Marmaduke Beckwith and her mother was Elizabeth Brockenbrough.  Her maternal grandparents were William Brockenbrough and Mary Newman. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Tarpley, Jonathan, Marmaduke, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Mary. She had a half-brother named Metcalfe.
